Who we are

Why the Name CW QRS?

The CW QRS Italia Group was founded in 2018, and the choice of its name was quite simple: in the Q Code, the acronym QRS is an invitation to transmit more slowly.

Our group wanted a name that wouldn’t intimidate beginners; instead, we wanted to encourage them to approach us and to learn Morse Code.

Choosing to use instant messaging on Telegram proved to be a winning choice, allowing the group to exceed 1,100 members.

Over time, what started merely as a chat to meet on the radio has transformed into a much more diverse and complex reality.

A series of thematic subgroups have been created: Main Group, Basic Course Levels I and II, Sked, Regional Hubs, and more.

Our telegraphy courses are taught by Ben (i8qfk) and Luigi (iz8vkw).

Seemingly in contrast with our name, we also pay particular attention to high-speed telegraphy, encouraging its study through specific training and the use of dedicated software such as Morse Runner, RuzXp, QRQ, CWFreak, and HST2006.

In addition to our daily presence on the radio, we have undertaken a series of very diverse initiatives: Xmas Activity, Springtime Activity, One Key Nights, CW Hub 8 Party, Telegraphy Day, QTC Days.

We have participated in the celebrations for the Centennial of the Italian Air Force, Marconi Commemorations, the World Scout Jamboree, as well as various national awards.

You can find us at Amateur Radio Fairs in Torrita di Siena, Montichiari, and Friedrichshafen, where we try to spread the passion for CW.

On the air, we are always happy to respond to your calls and have a chat with you, as our passion is the so-called “rag chewing” or “plain QSO”… in CW, of course.

We look forward to meeting you.
